Describe your wedding in three words

Fun – autumnal – boho

Why you chose the date of wedding (did it have any meaning)

Alex’s family are Jewish, and whilst this wasn’t a religious wedding, having it on a Sunday allowed the more observant members to be there. Added bonus of a Sunday was that it was cheaper, which freed up more budget to do more of what we wanted with the rest of the event

Anything about how you met/proposal story

We met on Tinder, back in 2014. We went out for a meal and drinks in Manchester and laughed the whole time.
We got engaged summer 2018, in front of Derwent Water Lake, and spent the weekend in Keswick together (Lake District).

Your inspiration/style/aspirations for the day

Really relaxed, organic and we wanted our humour and character to come through. No pretension, and feeling forced into a stereotypical wedding moments. Weddings cost a bomb so we wanted to do it our way.
Autumn is Jess’s favourite time of year, especially early autumn when you still get the last of the flowers and the beginnings of orange leaves, so she wanted that to be our colour palette.
We didn’t want to go too hard on a pumpkin vibe. But rather wanted more of a fete/festival atmosphere. We and our family enjoy nature and the out doors; Abbeywood’s glass house allowed us to feel outside whilst being in, and we could also wander the beautiful gardens, weather permitting. Jess’s grandma was also very keen for us to have it here too!

Memorable/emotional/funny moment on the day

We did traditional Jewish dancing, and chair lifting, which was really fun and got everyone in good spirits for the rest of the night! All of our none Jewish friends and family really loved this and it was a great laugh.

How did you discover me and why you chose me to photograph the day

Through Abbeywood and some google searching. We wanted to enjoy our day and not have to think about our photos, capture real genuine beautiful moments and feel relaxed. We realised we wanted documentary style photos and this is exactly what Jess achieved.

Are you going on honeymoon

Well…if covid will let us…
We already had a holiday booked to Lanzarote soon after our wedding, which was lovely timing. We had hoped to put all of our wedding gift money towards a big back-backing trip around Japan…but covid…so we are hoping for the same thing, but round Scandinavia instead 2022

Anything else….

There were many elements of the day that weren’t traditional…
It was a Jewish-ish wedding, Jess’s mum walked her down the aisle, our top table was our best friends only, we had 2 best men, Jess gave a small speech as did the bridesmaids!
Rather than spending a chunk of the budget on favours (which people forget to take home) we made our own Wedding Tombola, and spent the same money on top 3 prizes. Every guest received a raffle ticket during their meal with a chance to win. Alex did the draw after his speech, and it was really funny and enjoyed by everyone!
