Dorfold Hall // Katie & Tom
Dorfold Hall in Cheshire is one of my favourite wedding venues! I was so excited when Katie & tom got in touch and booked me for their day!
Describe your wedding in three words
The best day!
Why you chose the date of wedding (did it have any meaning)
Unfortunately not, it was the 4th date we were given due to numerous rescheduling because of COVID
Anything about how you met/proposal story
Tom and I met at Uni in Sheffield back in 2012, we met on a night out and since that day have pretty much been inseparable since. After many years of my not so subtle hints, Tom proposed to me in Santorini in 2018. It was the most magical proposal, very personal and romantic – very much like Tom! I think within a week I’d pretty much planned the wedding, and we couldn’t wait to celebrate our marriage with our family and friends.
Your inspiration/style/aspirations for the day
We wanted to have a day that was very reflective of us both as a couple, very chilled and informal but with an elegant style and design. We just wanted to be with the people we loved, and to laugh and drink and dance in a lovely setting with amazing food. We also didn’t want to feel rushed or that we didn’t have any time to be with each other or our family friends and this is exactly what we got, especially with Jess’ style which is so relaxed and more about capturing moments which we absolutely loved!
Memorable/emotional/funny moment on the day
The whole day was full of amazing memories so it’s hard to think of just a few that stand out from the rest but I think being walked down the aisle by my big brother and stepfather and seeing Tom’s face for the first time after not seeing him for nearly a week was a feeling I’ll never be able to put into words – I’ve never been so elated and I think it showed from the ridiculous smile on my face the whole way through the ceremony and my booming, confident and proud voice saying my vows. There are too many emotional and funny moments from the speeches to start on and Jess and James captured them so so well, it’s like reliving the whole thing looking at our photos. But one highlight has to be hearing Tom’s best man Christian describing Tom’s WoW character from when they were younger, Snork! “We were losers…” will stay in my mind forever!
How did you discover me and why you chose me to photograph the day
I discovered Jess through another supplier and instantly fell in love with her style! She captures moments and tells a story with her work, which is exactly what we both wanted. We’re not very formal people and didn’t want to spend hours dragging people up for photos when everyone just wants to have fun – Jess and James were just fantastic and the balance between photos we had asked for and capturing moments has been exactly what we wanted. Jess and James were great fun to be around throughout the day, there to offer support and advice when needed and also did a great job of blending in with everyone so it felt as though they were guests! We didn’t want to feel like we were on a photoshoot all day and we definitely didn’t, we had time away for photos by ourselves which was lovely and gave us an opportunity to take some time away from the guests and reflect but then we also just had so much time having fun and being with everyone. Jess and James also stayed for our fireworks which was not only incredible for the photos but also extremely good of them considering they’d been with us from early – it was such a long day for them but they were just so lovely and happy about everything.
Are you going on honeymoon
We went to Edinburgh for a week following our wedding for a mini-moon as our original honeymoon to Japan was cancelled last year, but we had the most amazing time – it’s a city we absolutely love, having visited several times already and we had the best surprise when we arrived as Jess sent us over a snapshot of our photos only 2 days after the wedding. I can’t tell you how much of a gift this was being able to see some of the incredible moments she had captured and it made the whole week even better, we spent so much time looking through them and reliving the day, telling our own stories and sharing them with our family and friends who were equally as delighted with them as we were. It was wonderful for us to switch off after such a busy time and we are planning a proper honeymoon next year once everything is hopefully a bit more normal, maybe we will go to Japan or maybe to the Amalfi coast which is another favourite destination of ours.
REVIEW
“I cannot thank Jess and James enough for the incredible service they gave us on our day. From the outset Jess has been amazing, I knew as soon as I spoke to her that she would be perfect for us – she has such a lovely, calming nature which I knew would be perfect for me on my wedding day and she is an exceptional photographer who tells a story through her work. We both had such wonderful mornings getting ready with our family and friends and the fact that both were captured, and captured so beautifully, by Jess and James really made it for us – we’ve spent a lot of time catching each other up on the mornings we had and having the images has just been incredible. Throughout the whole day Jess was an absolutely joy to work with and offered so much support and advice when we needed it. The images I have seen are everything I dreamed of and more, her capturing and editing style is 5* and I couldn’t think of a more wonderful team to work with. Thank you so much to Jess and James for the best day ever, you made it so perfect for us and we couldn’t be happier with everything. I know we’ll be continuing to share these photos and memories with our loved ones for years and years to come.”
