Frederiks Liverpool // Laura & Ian
It was my first time visiting Frederiks in Liverpool, such an intimate relaxed venue in the centre of Liverpool. Laura & Ian originally planned their wedding for 2020 and so watching them tie the knot in 2021 was quite emotional. Married at their local Frodsham church and then everyone headed to Liverpool for the wedding breakfast and dancing.
Describe your wedding in three words
Intimate, informal and minimalist
Why you chose the date of wedding (did it have any meaning)
Our wedding had been rearranged from the year before (23.05.2020), due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We chose the 6th August 2021 as a date to look forward to with hope that things would be back to normal by then. The 6th August 2021 was also five days after our anniversary (1st August) of 12 years together.
Anything about how you met/proposal story
Ian and I met in 2008 when we started Sixth form college – we were in A Level Spanish Class together. We finally got together in Summer 2009, and the rest as they say, is history!
Ian’s proposal came as a total shock! We’d not long moved back to the North West, after living in Hertfordshire for a number of years, and Ian suggested we take a drive over to Anglesey on a sunny bank holiday weekend in May 2018. Ian drove us over to a small beach near Trearddur Bay, where I’d spent many hours as a child building sandcastles and collecting shells with my grandparents. Whilst walking near to the shore, Ian called me over pretending to show me some shells, and then popped the question! We went for celebratory tea and toast at a favourite cafe nearby, before spending the rest of the day on the beach playing Scrabble and having a picnic.
Your inspiration/style/aspirations for the day
We knew as soon as we got engaged that we wanted a day that was simple, informal and a relatively small wedding. Our original plans changed due to COVID-19, meaning that we changed our reception venue. However, in the end, everything worked out just perfectly, with a romantic ceremony in our local church, St Laurence in Frodsham, and then a chilled yet sophisticated reception at Frederik’s Restaurant and Bar on Hope Street in Liverpool. The decor was minimalist and simple, with grey, navy and hints of gold, and with us both having an interest in design, we designed and made all of our own stationery. We were really happy with how everything went together on the day.
Memorable/emotional/funny moment on the day
With a love for motorsport, Ian had arranged a 1968 blue Ford Mustang to pick me up and take me to the church, and then to drive us to the reception afterwards. However, unbeknown to me, the car broke down on the motorway on the morning of the wedding and Ian had to think of a plan B. The first I knew about it was when Ian’s second cousin turned up at my front door to chauffeur me to the church instead – he saved the day!
How did you discover me and why you chose me to photograph the day
We knew instantly that we liked the style of Jess’ photos when looking on her website – no awkward poses or forced photos like you see in so many other people’s wedding photographs, just relaxed and natural photography.
Are you going on honeymoon
We had a lovely mini-moon to the Cotswolds straight after the wedding, and took along our Golden Retriever puppy for the trip.
We have rearranged our honeymoon to Stella Island, Greece, for next year, when we can travel with no restrictions and no worries!
REVIEW
We are so glad that we chose Jess as our wedding photographer. Jess has been so supportive throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, when trying to arrange a new wedding date and start planning all over again. Jess was so friendly and approachable, yet knowledgeable at each of our consultations, and was so much more than our photographer – she even helped us with our itinerary for the day! On the day, Jess was organised and professional, and made us feel at ease. At one point, we even forgot that Jess was taking photographs – she was so unobtrusive, just capturing natural moments of our celebrations. Thanks so much, Jess!
