Larkspur Lodge is a beautiful barn situated close to Knutsford in Cheshire. A countryside wedding venue Larkspur has two reception rooms, one for the civil ceremony and the other set up for the wedding breakfast.

Larkspur Lodge – a stunning wedding barn in rural Cheshire

One of my favourite things about Larkspur Lodge is its location. When you’re at the venue you would be forgiven for thinking you’re in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by fields and farmland. In fact, you’re just a short drive from Knutsford, one of Cheshire’s prettiest market towns. It’s the best of both worlds. The tranquility of the countryside yet not too far from Knutsford which offers plenty of accommodation – from large hotels to smaller, independent B&B’s. It also has great transport links, always a bonus for guests. 

A quirky barn wedding venue

Larkspur Lodge started life as a shippon barn, basically a cattle shed! That was back in the 18th century and today the converted barn still boasts a number of original features including red brick walls, exposed wooden beams and the large windows. 

Nowadays Larkspur Lodge is known as one of Cheshire’s best exclusive use wedding and events venues. It has so much character and charm and is super romantic. It’s the perfect spot for all sizes of celebrations – from intimate micro weddings to a big old wedding party.

 

Wedding ceremonies at Larkspur Lodge

I love the ceremony room at Larkspur Lodge. It’s romantic, it’s intimate and it looks fab whatever the time of year. Imagine a heartfelt ceremony in flickering candlelight – so atmospheric and beautiful. 

Retro, theatre style seating lines each wall, surrounding a checkerboard style black and white floor.  Huge contemporary chandeliers hang from the ceiling and twinkling lights adorn the timber beams. The ceremony room seats up to 150 guests yet it feels so intimate, even when it’s full of people. 

I also love sneaking back into the ceremony room at some point in the wedding day too. It’s such a great location for couple portraits and you can get some really romantic, slightly dramatic pictures in there. Spaces like this are what makes Larkspur Lodge such a fantastic, all weather venue. Even if it’s pouring with rain outside (thanks British weather!) there is still plenty of scope for beautiful portraits. 

Of course, if you’re planning a religious ceremony rather than a civil one then you’re in the right spot. Knutsford is home to a few churches and there are plenty of churches and chapels in the surrounding Cheshire villages. 

Larkspur Lodge wedding receptions

The Lodge itself is a beautifully light and airy open plan space, the main area is set up for the wedding breakfast in the day before transforming into a dancefloor and party area in the evening. There’s even a small stage for a band or DJ set up.

The bar and lounge area is perfect for guests to relax in during the wedding reception, or they can head out to the wooden decking and terrace that has views across the Cheshire countryside. One of the quirky touches that Larkspur is known for is its vintage fire truck. It transforms into a pizza oven at night, which guests (and hungry wedding suppliers!) love! 

The manicured lawn is the ideal setting for confetti. I love getting guests to head straight out there after the ceremony so that they can then cheer, clap and whoop with joy for the couple, as they throw handfuls of colourful petals at them! I’ve seen couples make full use of the garden by hiring in lawn games and, in the summer, you can even hold an outdoor ceremony there! 

Larkspur is such a great venue, it’s romantic and quirky and full of charm. I know the local area well (and have a few hidden spots that I love to whisk a couple off to for pictures) and it’s one of my favourite Cheshire venues.
